Being a high handicapper, I sometimes find myself needing to hit out from under trees. OK, this happens fairly often; even relatively good drives that land in the fairway sometimes run out and settle in the tree-line.
Occasionally, there’s an obstructed flight path for a regular iron shot, but more often than not, there’s a need [...]

Just wanted to make a note that I was driving the ball well today on the range. 5- and 3-Wood were straight or drawing. Key swing thoughts were (1) making a full backswing turn, and (2) swinging to right field.
The turn was helped by making sure my back was straight, not rounded at setup.
On the [...]

One weakness that I see in the way I’ve been practicing is that I’ll hit several balls with the same club, then when I’m hitting it well, I’ll move to another club and repeat.
However, during a round, we never hit 10 drives in a row (as an example). It’s more like driver / long iron / [...]

Shot 57 at my favorite back nine this morning. Overall performance was OK. Had four (4) bogeys and close calls for par. Hit 2 fairways and had 2 very close. Also hit one (1) green-in-regulation, with a very long (50ft) birdie putt (ended up with bogey!).
Two blow-up holes spoiled the scorecard, the first two. The [...]

Practiced bunker shots today. Here’s what works for me to get the ball out:
1) Setup with ball opposite the left heel.
2) Stance should be open relative to the target.
3) Open the clubface so that the “bounce” (flange on the bottom) rests on the sand.
4) I like to have the club leading edge square to the [...]

Today shot 61 at the back nine at Spring Valley. This was quite disappointing, especially since I had a great warm-up, hitting tee shots (including driver) quite straight.
However, on the course, the tee shots were wild and inconsistent. Sometimes overly strong draws, other times high fades/slices. Several balls went out of bounds, and I didn’t [...]

Shot 60 at the back nine at Spring Valley this morning. Last score on this track was 57.
In my defense, all the greens were aerated and really bumpy. Found it very hard to gauge speed in these conditions. Somehow managed par on a 485 yd par 5.
But overall I showed really poor course management. There [...]
