My second shot of every round is almost always a thin ground ball.  This is true for real rounds as well as simulated rounds on the driving range.  I think this happens because my first shot is a tee shot with driver, where I’m hitting up on the ball.  Then my second shot is an iron shot, [...]

Shot 54 on the back nine of the local muni today.  This was disappointing given my practice sessions: short game felt really good, and using “target focus” I was hitting really solid irons on the range.

Well my putting during the round was in fact excellent: hit only 16 putts, a personal best.  Chipping and pitching [...]

Newbie golfers lose a lot of golf balls, it’s a fact of life.  This can get expensive.  One dozen of a decent quality ball can be $25 or more, and losing several over 18 holes starts to add up.

Just a note that I was using target focus on the range today.  Thought of only the target during the entire swing (and practice swing as well).  If the target was a flag, I’d imagine it fluttering, and even listen for it during the swing.

Full swing positions to practice:
-Grip in fingers, light pressure
-One piece takeaway
-Turn to top, coiling against right side
Transition to…
-Hips fully open, firm left leg
-Allow arms to drop in the slot, with lag
-Swing to left after impact
Also need to practice chipping with lots of spin: one hop and stop.
Also need to practice putting stroke: equal length back [...]

On the practice green today, hit dozens of solid and on-line chips.  Ball position off right heel or in middle of stance, depending on how much air-time I wanted on the ball.
Towards the end of the session, started hitting chips fat or blading them.  Realized that I had the ball position almost to the left [...]

On the range today, was trying to get back to the feeling of easy driver shots going straight and long.
Intially, most shots were being pushed out to the right.  Realized that I was gripping the club too hard and not allowing the release of the clubhead.  Once I started gripping very light (feels like a [...]
