Shot a disappointing 51 today.  My ball striking has improved a lot recently, and it showed on the course.  Hit 4 out of 7 fairways, and no lost balls.
However, I lost easily 8 strokes due to poor chipping / pitching.  Will need to work on that in the weeks ahead…

Newbie Golfer recently vacationed in New Zealand, and played a round at the Queenstown Golf Club, on the South Island.  Queenstown has a dramatic setting on Lake Wakatipu, with the Remarkables mountain range as a backdrop.  The lake and/or mountains can be seen from every hole on this course, as shown in the photos below.

Shot 54 on the back nine of the local muni today.  This was disappointing given my practice sessions: short game felt really good, and using “target focus” I was hitting really solid irons on the range.

Full swing positions to practice:
-Grip in fingers, light pressure
-One piece takeaway
-Turn to top, coiling against right side
Transition to…
-Hips fully open, firm left leg
-Allow arms to drop in the slot, with lag
-Swing to left after impact
Also need to practice chipping with lots of spin: one hop and stop.

Shot 51 on the back nine of the local muni this morning. 
Driving was OK (hit 57% of fairways).  However, didn’t hit any greens in regulation, and didn’t get any up and downs.
Which seems odd, because I was hitting irons solid, and chipping/pitching felt good.  Just wasn’t getting close enough to the targets…

Today I shot 108 on the local 18 hole par 72.  Quite disappointing, as based on practice sessions and recent 9 hole scores, was expecting to be much lower.  Here’s the breakdown:
Fairways Hit: 10 out of 13
Greens in Regulation: zero
Up and Downs: 2 out of 18

Played the back nine at the local muni this morning. Shot 49, tying my personal best.  Feel really good about this  score, since it’s been months since I’ve played this well.  Changed a few things:
1) Played from the forward men’s tees.  This yardage is similar to the yardage at my “home” course’s middle tees.

Today, had a round in which most of my driver shots went straight right.  It felt as if they were coming off the toe of the club.

Shot 51 on the par 34, 2719 yards today.  Last couple of rounds were 54, so this was definitely an improvement.
Focused on target as much as possible (full swing, pitching, chipping, and putting), instead of on swing mechanics.  Felt very relaxed and made great ball contact as a result.

My new iron swing (easy tempo) worked really well.  Hit my 6 iron solid, long, high and on-target 5/5 times, including a couple times from the fairway.
 Putting and chipping were decent.
