Played the putting game today on the practice green. Dropped 1 ball eighteen times, in various positions around various holes. Putt length varied from 6 feet to 30 feet, uphills and downhills, etc.
One putt = -1, two putt = 0, etc.
After 18 holes, was -3! My lowest score ever for this game.
Warm-up was hitting 3 [...]

For me, ball-striking consistency comes down to two (2) things:
1) Turning, not swaying
2) Setup
Today at the range I was making near-perfect turns but still hitting fat and thin.
Checking out my grip (i.e. setup), I found that I was gripping the club a little too short (choked down about an inch). This led to thin shots, [...]

My ball striking has been improving a lot lately on the range. This is a result of focusing on smooth tempo, and turning not swaying.
For fades, I finish with my hands high, creating a steeper swing and deeper divot. For draws, I finish with hands lower for a shallower swing.
Just these 2-3 swing thoughts have [...]

Had a surreal experience on the range today. As you know, I’ve not been hitting driver due to its inconsistency for me, and planned to revisit it when my ballstriking improved.
Well, my ballstriking has improved. So I brought out the driver and hit some balls, after several minutes of hitting 4 Hybrid and 5 Wood very [...]

Have been working on my putting again. Most of what I’ve read suggests that distance control is the key to making fewer putts.
So working on distance control on the practice green today, I realized that (a) my distance control is poor on the longer putts, and (b) on the longer putts I sometimes do not [...]

During my last round, was not able to get many chips close to the hole. I’ve been so focused on ball-striking improvement, that I hadn’t practiced chipping for several weeks, and it showed in my scoring. So back to chipping practice…
I’ve decided to approach this like putting, in the sense of making distance control the [...]

Just a note that I’m back to using a power fade.
I had experimented with this a while back, and had incorporated it into my rounds. However, I had tended to hit the ball straight left, and so returned to setting up straight at the target, or for a draw. I’ve gone back to the [...]

Just a note on chiping practice today.
Was intially havng trouble making solid contact. After reviewing my fundamentals, realized that i was moving my head during the stroke, to check out the results. So focused my eyes on the ball and the spot on the ball after impact, looking up a few seconds after [...]

Since I tend to be a bit wild off the tee with my driver, I’ll rack up a few strokes per round for balls lost out of bounds. Could probably drop 4 strokes right away if I eliminated these penalties. So I’ve started practicing with my 3 Hybrid again, for use as a [...]

Just following up on some things I noticed that I need to practice after the last round. Managed to do all of this in one practice session today:
1) Uneven lies: Practiced this during chipping around an elevated putting green. Uphill lie, moved the ball back in my stance. Downhill lie, moved the [...]
