Shot 54 on the back nine of the local muni today.  This was disappointing given my practice sessions: short game felt really good, and using “target focus” I was hitting really solid irons on the range.
Well my putting during the round was in fact excellent: hit only 16 putts, a personal best.  Chipping and pitching [...]

In my last round, my drives were really off, nothing straight and long.  Hooks, fades and a slice out of bounds.  This  was surprising, since I was starting to consider driving a strength.
I realized that I was trying to kill the ball, which was reducing my chances of solid contact.  So at the range today, [...]

Just wanted to make a note that I was hitting the driver very well during practice today.
Started off hitting straight or slightly drawing, but not generating much power.  These initial shots were short (100-150 yds) and low (~5-10 ft off the ground).  After some thought, I realized that I was casting the club, i.e. not [...]

Been working on tee shots at the driving range.  The 4 Hybrid and 5 Wood are relatively well-behaved, hitting nice draws with carry about 150 and 170 yds respectively.   Coiling, unwinding with the hips, hitting inside-out and releasing the hands through impact.
The driver (Taylormade R5) is a slightly different story.  I tend to hit high [...]

Practiced my tee shots today.  Used the 4 Hybrid, 3 Hybrid, and the R5 Driver.
With the 4H, I’m hitting nice reliable 5-10 yard draws out to 150 yds.  To nail the target, just have to aim 5-10 yards right of it, and it will curve back quite nicely.  This draw has become so ingrained that I’m [...]
