Lately I’ve been very inconsistent with irons and driver. Sometimes will be hitting these perfectly on the range (including nice long 5 irons) but start hitting fat or thin on the course. Even topped my driver on the course recently (haven’t done that in about a year!).

Just a note that I was using target focus on the range today. Thought of only the target during the entire swing (and practice swing as well). If the target was a flag, I’d imagine it fluttering, and even listen for it during the swing.

Played the back nine at the local muni this morning. Shot 49, tying my personal best. Feel really good about this score, since it’s been months since I’ve played this well. Changed a few things:

Shot 51 on the par 34, 2719 yards today. Last couple of rounds were 54, so this was definitely an improvement.
Focused on target as much as possible (full swing, pitching, chipping, and putting), instead of on swing mechanics. Felt very relaxed and made great ball contact as a result.

Been reading lately about how being target focussed can help with shooting better scores. The basic idea is that after we learn a swing, our body remembers, and does what it takes to move the ball along the target line. So look at the target, and hold that image in mind while swinging.
